BOSTON, MA – Consigli Construction Co., Inc. has again been named by The Boston Globe as one of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts for the 16th consecutive year.

Members of the Consigli team celebrated the award at an event on December 4, where the company was also recognized as one of the longest-running companies on the annual list.

Each year, companies and workplaces across Massachusetts are recognized by The Boston Globe as Top Places to Work based on employee feedback captured through surveys. The survey measures employee opinions about their company’s direction, execution, connection, management, work, pay and benefits, and engagement. The employers are placed into one of four groups: small (50-99 employees); medium (100-249 employees); large (250-999 employees); and largest (1,000 or more employees).

This recognition in the large employers category was earned through Consigli’s commitment to fostering a strong culture, generous benefits and opportunities for development for its employees. A 100% employee-owned (ESOP) company since 2018, in addition to resources that support the physical and mental health of employees and their families, Consigli also provides its people with a direct benefit of its success.

Additionally, Consigli offers 24 hours of paid volunteer time, generous 401K matching, fitness reimbursement and wellness incentives, summer Fridays, parental leave and a culture that encourages work life balance. Various Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) also work collaboratively and thoughtfully to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for all employees.

Consigli has been consistently named a Top Place to Work regionally in Maine, Connecticut, New York and Washington, D.C., and has previously been recognized nationally as a Forbes Best Employer.

PORTLAND, ME – Consigli Construction Co., Inc.’s commitment to safety excellence was recently recognized by Engineering News-Record (ENR) New England in its annual 2024 Best Regional Project Awards, with the Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts project receiving the top safety honor.

The largest academic project in Colby College history, and the campus’ new home for music, cinema studies and performance, theater and dance departments, the 74,000 sq. ft. Gordon Center serves as one of the most advanced and innovative performing arts facilities in New England. To achieve the Gordon Center’s innovative design, complete with highly specialized acoustical treatments able to adapt to multiple disciplines and performance types, Consigli collaborated closely with the design team and performed meticulous quality assurance work to ensure that the Center’s performance spaces met design specifications and standards.

Completed on a busy, occupied campus and sited on bedrock that required blasting in a heavily-trafficked area to install foundations and utilities, Consigli exceeded jobsite safety standards and prioritized the protection of the Colby College community through extensive safety planning and constant communication with students and faculty.

Leveraging its in-house resources and expertise, Consigli enlisted both its proven pre-fabrication approach to streamline delivery and minimize on-site work during inclement weather, as well as its self-perform division to perform the installation of the building’s custom limestone façade and parts of the acoustic panel installation.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – 345 Hudson Decarbonization – Phase 1, trailblazing project utilizing advanced Nordic design principles of holistic energy recycling and electrification to decarbonize the century-old building, was honored by Engineering News-Record (ENR) New York with its 2024 Excellence in Sustainability Award.

Consigli and its energy division, Arch Energy, have worked collaboratively with project partners to rapidly electrify 345 Hudson by replacing steam and natural gas systems. Using proven, innovative technologies from Electric.nyc, Phase 1 will enable renewable energy within the existing building infrastructure and replace outdated systems powered by steam and natural gas with smart electric-powered systems. Leveraging these new systems, 345 Hudson and adjacent buildings will be connected through micro-grids to create shared, efficient and circular heating and cooling.

Once complete, 345 Hudson’s retrofit is expected to reduce emissions by at least 70 percent and support compliance with New York City’s Local Law 97, which mandates large buildings significantly reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Developed by Hudson Square Properties (HSP), a collaboration between Hines, Trinity Church Wall Street, and Norges Bank, the award-winning project received NYSERDA’s first Empire Building Challenge grant to support decarbonization efforts.

Members of the Consigli and Arch Energy teams, alongside project partners, received the award at a Nov. 12 celebration hosted by ENR.

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Williams College’s Davis Center has been honored by Engineering News-Record (ENR) New England as a recipient of the 2024 Award of Merit in its annual Regional Best Project Awards. It received the award in the Higher Education/Research category for the New England region, and was recently featured in ENR’s November issue.

The Davis Center, the College’s center for the advancement of institutional diversity, equity and inclusion, connects multiple buildings on campus and transformed existing facilities to better reflect the Center’s mission and serve current and future academic and cultural needs. Through a major new addition and comprehensive energy retrofit renovations to the 19th century Rice and Jenness Houses, the new Davis Center provides fully accessible resources and community spaces for students and faculty.

Utilizing mass timber and engineered wood hybrid materials, the all-electric project removed fossil fuel-based heating systems and was built to rigorous environmental standards to support the College’s commitment to sustainability. It is targeting Petal Certification under the Living Building Challenge, as well as strict Energy Use Index requirements to reduce energy loads on campus.

Project teams recognized by ENR’s panel of judges were evaluated on their ability to overcome challenges, contribute to industry innovation and benefit the community, as well as overall excellence in design, construction and safety execution.

WASHINGTON, DC – Two Consigli Construction Co., Inc. projects were recently honored by the DC Preservation League at its 20th Annual Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation. Meridian Hill Park and the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Memorial were recognized for their meticulous restoration work completed by Consigli’s team, including the preservation and installation of exposed aggregate concrete pioneered by artisan John J. Earley.

The lower plaza level of the historic Meridian Hill Park, a National Park Service site in downtown Washington known locally as Malcolm X Park, required extensive restoration efforts. The project included construction of a new accessible route through the lower plaza level to provide barrier-free entry, rehabilitation of the designed landscape, improved drainage and detailed restoration work of the park’s historic features, including installing 13,000 square feet of exposed aggregate to match the original work of J.J. Earley.

The Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Memorial was constructed in 1942 to commemorate Metropolitan police officers killed in the line of duty. Also designed by Earley and likewise made up of exposed aggregate, the project saw the renovation of the historic fountain and addition of a new Memorial Wall and lighting.

“Consigli worked closely with our project partners to ensure that the restoration work enhanced the longevity of the sites while preserving the integrity and historic fabric of both Meridian Hill Park and the DC Police Memorial,” said Phil Brault, Director of Operations of the Washington, D.C. office. “This recognition by the DC Preservation League is a testament to Consigli’s commitment and passion for historic preservation here in the District, as well as to the talent of our project teams, our historic preservationists and our skilled trade partners who made these honors possible.”

This is the second year in a row that the DC Preservation League has recognized Consigli. In 2022 Consigli received the Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation for Design and Construction for their work on the transformative MLK Gateway project in Anacostia.

PORTLAND, ME – The John and Lile Gibbons Center for Arctic Studies and Barry Mills Hall on the Bowdoin College’s campus has been honored by Engineering News Record (ENR) as a 2023 New England Best Project of the Year. It received top honors in the Higher Education/Research category.

The first pure mass timber structure in Maine, the $28.5 million, 46,000 sq. ft. project utilized glue laminated beams, columns and trusses, as well as other materials. To mitigate potential supply chain and skilled workforce challenges, Consigli proactively secured pricing for the mass timber ahead of significant lumber price increases.

To further support cost savings, Consigli utilized a 4D model using cost analysis to compare mass timber with a more traditional steel, concrete and masonry superstructure and demonstrated that mass timber pre-fabrication strategies was the best choice for the project. Funding for the cost comparison was supported by the U.S. Forest Service, making Bowdoin College one of just 10 institutions to receive agency funding to bring sustainable change to the nation’s working forests and forest-reliant communities.

In addition to receiving this New England regional honor, Consigli also received ENR New York’s top award in the K-12 Education category for its work on the Bronx High School of Science – Stanley Manne ’52 Institute of Science.

Project teams recognized by ENR’s panel of judges as regional Best Project winners were evaluated on how they were able to overcome challenges, contribute to industry innovation and benefit the community, as well as overall excellence in design, construction and safety execution.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – Congratulations to Laura Bush, Director of Operations for the New York City Metro Region, for being recognized during Women in Construction Week as a Construction Dive 2023 Construction Champion.

Honored as an Industry Veteran thanks to her nearly 30 years in construction, Laura’s experience and leadership in the industry has earned her this well-deserved recognition.

This year’s 31 award winners were selected from a pool of more than 400 nominations due to their commitment to making the construction industry a more diverse, productive and welcoming place for all.

In addition to her leadership at Consigli, Laura is also a founding co-chair of the Ambassador Council for Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) an organization formed to support women interested in entering the construction trades. She has also served on the Board of the Women Builder’s Council in New York City and is a past Chapter President of the Greater New York and Long Island Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).

The construction industry presents a unique opportunity for women, often filled with challenges that require quick thinking, strategic solutions and effective project management. Thirty years later, I am still just as passionate about this work as I was during my very first internship, and I’m proud of the relationships and projects I’ve been able to build throughout the New York Metro region and beyond.

MILFORD, MA – Consigli Construction Co., Inc., has been nationally recognized as a Forbes Best Midsize Employer for the second straight year. Consigli’s focus on fostering a strong culture and its offerings to employees at all its regional locations made the company a contender for the national recognition.

Consigli is a 100% employee-owned company that puts the development and health of its 1,600 people at the forefront of what they do. The company adopted a hybrid working model for its office-based employees and offers career development and growth opportunities in offices in New England, New York, Washington D.C., as well as in the Caribbean.

Employees and their families are offered benefits that are geared towards their wellbeing, including health, dental and vision coverage, 401k matching, paid volunteer time, fitness reimbursements, parental leave and a culture that supports work/life balance.

The company also developed Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to foster a diverse and accepting culture for all.

Each year, Forbes partners with market research company Statista to measure up the leading employers around the country and the world by asking workers about their experience at their companies.

Since the employee experience can vary greatly depending on an organization’s size and the individual worker, the rankings look at large and midsize employers. To determine the list, Statista surveyed 60,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees. All the surveys were anonymous, allowing participants to openly share their opinions.

The respondents were asked to rate, on a scale of zero to 10, how likely they’d be to recommend their employer to others. Statista then asked respondents to nominate organizations other than their own, as well as identify organizations they would not recommend to others. The final list ranks the 500 large and 500 midsize employers that received the most recommendations.
